GETTING STARTED
Choosing a Fire Feature
What makes Warming Trends Crossfire® 2.0 burners different from other fire pit burners?
A Warming Trends flame is hard to mistake. Our patented CROSSFIRE® 2.0 technology creates a taller, fuller, more natural-looking flame that stands alone as the industry’s best. Made from 100% brass, CROSSFIRE® is engineered to deliver exceptional flame performance, fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and long-lasting durability.
What is the difference between a Warming Trends burner and the competition?
How do I choose the right size burner for my fire pit?
Choosing the right burner starts with the size and shape of your fire pit opening. Measure the interior dimensions of your enclosure, then consider your available gas supply, fuel type and desired flame. The size of your opening will help determine the maximum burner size, but bigger isn’t always necessary. CROSSFIRE® burners are designed to produce an impressive flame with the proper gas supply. Follow our Six Steps to Fire to find the right burner for your project or contact our Flame Specialists (303-346-2224) for more details on this process.
How many BTUs does my fire pit need, and how do I determine how much gas is available?
The right BTU output depends on the size of your fire feature, the burner you select, and the flame you want to achieve. Before choosing a burner, determine how much gas is available at the fire feature location. Available BTUs are affected by factors such as fuel type, gas pressure, gas line size, and the length of the gas run. Use our Gas Pipe Size & BTU Supply Chart as a guide, and work with a licensed gas professional to confirm the available gas supply before installation. Once you know your available BTUs, you can select a CROSSFIRE® burner that fits both your fire feature and gas supply.
How much gas do I need for a Warming Trends burner?
The amount of gas you need depends on the CROSSFIRE® burner you select and whether you’re using natural gas or liquid propane. Each burner has a specified BTU range, and your gas system must be able to deliver enough fuel at the fire feature to achieve the desired flame. Before installation, use our Gas Pipe Size & BTU Supply Chart and work with a licensed gas professional to confirm your gas line, pressure, and available BTUs can support your selected burner.
What do I need to know when planning or building a gas fire pit or outdoor fireplace?
Planning a gas fire pit or outdoor fireplace starts with understanding your space, gas supply, and desired flame. Key considerations include the size and shape of the fire feature, available BTUs, natural gas or propane, burner size and configuration, ignition system, ventilation, clearances, and fire-rated media. Following these considerations from the beginning helps ensure your fire feature is designed for proper performance and a successful installation. Our Six Steps to Fire walks you through the process from gas supply to selecting the right burner and ignition system.
Should I use natural gas or liquid propane for my fire feature?

Warming Trends CROSSFIRE® burners are made from 100% brass, providing exceptional durability, corrosion resistance, and long-lasting performance in outdoor environments. Learn more about our patented CROSSFIRE® technology: Explore CROSSFIRE® Technology
Can I convert my burner from natural gas to propane or propane to natural gas?
If you’re using one of our Crossfire2.0 Universal burners (released early 2026), you will simply swap the gas-type adapter under your burner inlet to the alternate gas type (detailed in our owner’s guide). If you’re using a legacy Crossfire Burner (ordered 2025 or earlier), each jet will need to be replaced. Contact our Flame Specialists (303-346-2224) for more details on this process.
Regardless of burner model, if an ignition system is in use the pilot assembly will need to be replaced as well.
Can Warming Trends burners be installed at high altitude?
Can I adjust the flame height on my fire pit?
Yes. Warming Trends fire pits allow you to adjust the flame height using the key valve or compatible ignition controls, giving you control over the look and intensity of your fire.
What certifications do Warming Trends products have?

Certification varies by product and configuration, so refer to our Resources page for current certification information and documentation: View Certifications
Ignition Systems – Cobalt, Carbon, and More
Which ignition system is right for my fire feature?
The right ignition system depends on several factors, including your available BTU supply, burner configuration, budget, project requirements, and local codes. Our Flame Specialists can help you compare your options and recommend the best ignition system for your specific fire feature. Call us at 303-346-2224 for personalized guidance or view our ignition system comparison chart!
What is the difference between your ignition systems?
The PBIK3.0 ignition is a simple grill-style ignition. When you push the button, it makes contact with a battery that sends a charge to the spark rod mounted next to a jet on the burner. Referred to as a “metal match”, this is considered an upgraded match-lit system.
The Mercury battery-powered ignition takes this a step further. By adding a pilot assembly and integrated dial/faceplate, this system offers greater safety measures without requiring power on-site.
The Carbon 3V ignition is our latest system to be released, which offers both battery powered and direct-wire models. It has a higher BTU rating than the Mercury (360K BTU vs 240K on the Mercury) while offering a much lower price point than the Cobalt and Platinum Electronic ignitions. All Carbon ignition systems meet national low-voltage standards.
Our 12V (Cobalt) and 24V (Platinum) systems will be extremely similar and are considered our premium ignition systems. Both require power at the site, with the 12V Cobalt being the “Low-Voltage” choice, making it great for areas with pools or other water features. The Platinum 24V ignition is great for larger systems that require higher BTU outputs (up to 680K vs 490K on the Cobalt).
Not sure which ignition is right for your project? Our Flame Specialists can help you compare options based on your burner, BTU requirements, power availability, and project needs. Call us at 303-346-2224 for personalized guidance or view our ignition system comparison chart!
Can I add or upgrade an ignition system on an existing fire feature?
Absolutely! You’ll just want to make sure the burner in use doesn’t have a BTU rating higher than the max output of the ignition, or you may experience flame loss. You’ll also want to ensure you have an appropriate power supply if necessary (see question above). Our owner’s guide provides instructions for all ignition systems so you’ll always have the necessary information.
Can I connect my electronic ignition to a home automation system?
Can I adjust flame height when using an ignition system?
Are your ignition systems certified?
Yes! All of our ignition systems are certified. Check out our certifications here: Warming Trends Certifications

Fire Media – Lava Rock, Fire Glass, Log Sets
What fire media can I use with a Warming Trends burner?
Warming Trends offers Lava Rock or Fire Glass to pair with our burners, with various log set options that would sit on top of this rock/glass. Regardless of the media you choose, we recommend confirming with the media manufacturer that the media is safe for use in firepits. Fire Pit Media: Fire Glass, Lava Rock & More | Warming Trends®
DO NOT use river rock or similar media that may have been in contact with water/moisture when harvested, as these stones can hold this moisture and eventually crack or pop once heated in the vessel.
How should I place lava rock or fire glass around my burner?
Warming Trends always recommends hand placement of media around a burner. Place media up to the jet level (if you’d like to cover the jets, do not place more than ½” of media above the tips of the jets).
DO NOT pour media from a bag or bucket, as this can introduce very small pieces (including dust) that can clog jets/orifices and lead to performance issues.
